Overview
A 10-night safari is for the adventurous traveller The first 7 nights are the same as a the 7 night
itinerary. Day 8 and 9 are spent in our mobile fly camp which is set up especially for the safari.
All these camps are well situated in big game areas. They are chosen for the variety of terrain & species that favour particular areas.
This is a sample itinerary which may vary according to water levels and game movements.
Day 1: Kujwana Camp
We will meet you at Maun airport and transfer you into camp. Options on transfers are available; fixed wing and helicopter shuttle is highly recommended. Flying into the delta is a special experience and the view from the helicopter is the finest way to start you safari. We serve lunch and given an introduction talk on safety and game viewing from horseback. This is followed by an orientation ride lasting 1-2 hours.
Day 2: Kujwana Camp
Morning game ride in the Xudum area. Wade through lush green malapos that lead you from island to island. Surprise a timid reedbuck out of its dense cover on a heavily wooded island; enjoy herds of lechwe and giraffes moving through the open spaces. This area forms seasonal marshlands and hosts a variety of exceptional birdlife. Return to camp for lunch and a siesta followed by an afternoon game drive with sunset drinks and an evening drive.
Day 3: Kujwana Camp
A full-morning ride exploring the western Baobab area. Small islands linked by numerous hippo channels lead you to Baobab Island. Deep lagoons make this is a good area for hippo and lechwe, as well as buffalo and other big game. Breeding herds of elephants enjoy the security of the dense forest, and travel from pan to pan leaving a lattice of large paths. Zebras, wildebeest and buffaloes are also attracted to this area. The abundant animal tracks leave you guessing whats up ahead and what has past by . In the cool of the afternoon drift on the water in a Mekoro (traditional canoe) past heavily scented water lilies and painted reed frogs.
Day 4: Mokolwane Camp
Ride from Kujwana to Mokolwane Camp, following a 30-km north-westerly route through open floodplains and scattered islands to the Matsebe River system. A picnic lunch is served on a shady island some two hours from Mokolwane Camp, where you’ll arrive at sunset.
Day 5: Mokolwane Camp
A morning Game Walk gives you the chance to explore the surroundings and experience the delta from a different perspective. After lunch and a siesta an evening ride takes you into the Matsibe River system and features wide floodplains interspersed with mokolwane palms - a favorite food of elephants and baboons, while the numerous Buffalo prefer the dense Tsaro Palms.
Day 6: Mokolwane Camp
A full morning’s ride gives you the chance to explore deeper into the wilderness to the west of Mokolwane camp. Return to camp for a long lunch on a raised platform overlooking the beautiful Matsibie River where elephant frequently wander across the horizon and hippo wallow in the pool below. Last night in your tree house 10 ft above the ground.
Day 7: Kujwana Camp
A full-day from Moklowane to Kujwana riding the Southern route following the edge of the Matsibi River. A picnic lunch is prepared at the swimming hole. Enjoy a siesta on a camp bed in the shade of big tree and you could be joined by an elephant Bull strolling past or the sudden arrival of a herd of buffalo drifting into the water. Arrival at Kujwana is at sunset.
Day 8 Fly Camp
After a full day picnic ride we arrive at a beautifully set up fly camp. Bedrolls with mosquito nets will be ready and set up in individual locations with private wash stands and bush loos. Bucket and pulley showers are serviced by cheerful staff with plenty of hot water. The evening will be spent telling stories around the fire as a hearty dinner cooks away on hot coals. Then with nothing but the sound of reed frogs, nightjars, crickets, and a blanket of stars overhead, you steal off to bed with the soft glow of the fire lighting your way.
Day 9: Fly Camp
After breakfast at sunrise you set off on a ride to explore the surrounding area. Return to camp in time for lunch and an afternoon spent relaxing in the shade with books and perhaps having a dip in the clear Okavango waters. In the evening we will head out for sunset drinks in the bush and an adventurous night drive before returning for a second night spent under the stars.
Day 10: Kujwana Camp
A four-hour morning ride brings us to a beautiful picnic site. Cold drinks and refreshing swim help while away the peaceful hours of a truly remote bush picnic. We return to Kujwana in time for sunset and a final meal where tales from your adventure are sure to abound.

Early morning ride out of Kujwana Camp if flight times permit. Guests depart after breakfast.
NB. Okavango Horse Safaris reserves the right to alter the itinerary according to water levels and game movements. Mokoros (dugout Canoes) are offered as an activity depending on water levels.
10 night itinerary - on day 6 the horses are sometimes rested & other activities are offered, i.e.Mokoro with picnic lunch, game drive or bird walk.
